Wilderness Homesteading on the shores of lake Superior.
We have 16 acres of forested land where we are homesteading, refining our bushcraft skills, and working towards going off grid. We live in northern Ontario, Canada. We aim to bring our homestead adventures into your home, phone, tv, laptop and tablet.
Welcome! You’ve reached Dave and Amanda’s UA-cam Channel, Wilderstead. We are documenting our lives while we develop our 16 acre forested property, aptly named WILDERSTEAD, with the goal of becoming self-reliant.

Homemade Soy Sauce? YES WE DID! (Wild Shoyu)
Made with wild Pheasant's Back (Dryads Saddle) mushrooms, this delicious lighter style 'soy' sauce is loaded with Umami. It is a simple koji rice fermentation that ages for 1-2 months before it is strained and bottled. Enjoy this wild mushroom shoyu just like you would soy sauce - in stir frys, marinades, dressings and more.

This Is How We Grow & Process Luffas For Sponges
Переглядів 4,2 тис.4 місяці тому
This is our method of growing and processing luffas for sponges. Luffas (loofahs) have been grown for centuries as both a food item and a scrubby sponge like item that can be used just like any other sponge or dish scrubby. The best part, these home grown sponges are completely biodegradable and put zero micro-plastics into the environment. It's also really cool telling folks that in a northern...

This is the giant solar powered food dehydrator that we built. It includes a primary heater for dehydrating foods that require a higher temperature, a small solar panel and a small solar powered 12 volt fan. In this video we show how we built the dehydrator as well as a few of the food items that we have successfully dehydrated in the unit including blueberries and sun dried tomatoes. WATER STR...

This Is How We Preserve Our Wild Mushroom Harvest
Переглядів 8 тис.11 місяців тому
Some of the tastiest and healthiest mushrooms grow wild. We harvest several varieties of wild mushrooms including golden or yellow chanterelles. We like to make sure we have these available to eat all year long, so we preserve them using a couple of different methods. Wild mushrooms like these chanterelles are very high in naturally occurring vitamin D due to where they grow, exposed to sunligh...
This Is How We Preserve Hundreds Of Eggs For Long Term Storage
Переглядів 30 тис.11 місяців тому
Our aim is to grow and raise as much of our own food as possible, towards achieving this we raise our own chickens for eggs. Just like our produce though, egg production is seasonal, with our ladies slowing down and sometimes coming to a complete stop in the winter. To make sure we have enough eggs for our cooking and baking needs in the winter, we dehydrate hundreds of eggs and make powder. Th...

Really good cooked in a little bacon grease
Wow where does it frost in June?
Thank you for these detailed instructions. I just harvested my potato tower with not so much instruction and it was meh.
What a moronic thing to post You admit that a late frost had a major effect Then, I went on to comment on the harvest Btw I plant 5 varieties in 10 towers for years With great success, 😊😊😊
I was sooo excited when I started your video because it was just you talking! But then the deeper information of your video started and you dubbed music into the background. For that reason, I had to stop. Not everyone can separate the noise from the data easily. So if I were to force myself to sit through your entire video, I would be wiped out nad could not watch any other videos. So it's just easier for me to stop watching. If you can remove the background noise and repost the video, I would love to watch it. And since this was 4 years ago, hopefully you have changed how you currently post videos and have already removed the music. I'll wait to hear back from you to find out. Thank you.
I built a couple towers like this full of potatoes put some time in love into it. It grew well through the season, but at the end the crop was wrecked because it was a huge mouse house. I think I got a couple potatoes out of the whole thing.😡
I have used a combination of plantain and burdock root to cure uti.
I have been saving seeds since i was little, i cant help it if i see a seed even with store ought i set to the side. I still watch videos to see if theres a tip or trick i dont know.
I just bought one of these (like 10 minutes ago) from Amazon for $198 4th of July sale. Intend to use it for 2-3 day camping.
Thank you, from Northern Montana
Canadian lasagna
Algoma region zone #3 Thank you .... i wish others would give basic info ... so you know what has worked in the area off-grid ... so you can plan on your minium requirements when you start
I'm a novice cook, what time and temp for the peanut butter cookies? Great job on the video production - your a natural for that.
disrespectful treatment of the chaga in words and deeds.
That woman knows how hard stuff is to build and has done the work she will Appreciate things that are built, unlike most women. That thing. Oh, there's nothing to that I can do that. No problem. There's a lot more to everything than just no problem. Just pointing out that she understands the difference. And that's a really good trait to have when dealing with working men!!! Appreciating them, unlike most women. That just there's no problem, and there's nothing to it. And they're equal and blah blah blah blah blah yeah.
I can't have mustard so I'm looking for a recipe without it (tough gig with pickles lol). I suppose I could just skip the mustard. This looks delish & loved the bloopers
Thanks for sharing this video sir. I do have these in my yard. I plan to include them in one of my steamed mixed veggie meals.
Excellent content. Please keep making videos.
Can't find the recipe
I made this salve for a friend of mine, within days it started to heal... 🤔
As we aged we relied on Cast Iron... The original Non stick pan !!! Non of that Non stick teflon shit that's been known to cause cancer.
Maam, I'm a Micmac Indian I own a Foodi Ninja that does an excellent job... 🤔
That rooster at the end was wanting to go to the crock pot 😂
Do you guys cover your chicken run with a roof at all? How about plastic during the winter?
They have a covered run all year to use. We wrap the run in plastic over the winter to keep the snow out.
My chickens do not give a single f about their xylophone 😂
either save the small packets of or buy some Silica and use them to help dry out the seeds. Place the, separated clean, seeds in a plastic tub with the silica, seal the tub and leave for a couple of weeks, ideally. then store the dried seeds in seed envelopes/wage packet envelopes. This is a similar technique that is used by the Royal Horticulture Society. They use this technique at the Millennium Seed Bank prior to long term storage.
Making these right now
WOW. This is the absolute BEST pallet build barn build I've seen yet. I'm getting ready to build a barn/ shed. I'll be doing it by myself, so I've been looking for the easiest yet sturdy build. Ya'll nailed it. Hell of a job. I'll definitely be watching ya'll videos for my other projects as well.
What a beautiful, relaxing video. Thank you
Hi you guys very nice hoop tent. Good work. How is your platic cover measured pks?😊
What about when it gets colder out what do i do then
Im very concerned about the treatment of the worms. I hope you are providing them with veterinary care its also not right they are caged and not free range! truly despicable to see this
You can feed them to your chickens, eat the eggs, and eat the chickens, too.
Hi hope you's are doing well😊
Is this community still active? I would love the opportunity to speak with someone involved.
Why did you throw away those stuck sugar in the end!!! So hurtful to watch
Make 40kgs of it and tell me that 😂

I pulled some seeds out of the kids pumpkins last year and am growing them right now. Feels really good to save money.
Hi! I started a small container garden in my side yard. It is one of the best things that I have ever done! I’ve fallen in love with it! Thanks to you, I now know how to save the seeds from the vegetables for future planting. Thank you so much for this God given, wonderful, and educational video!!! Question, what is the name of the cucumbers that you are using? I’m going to try pickling come harvest. Thx! New subscriber here! 😊
ike here,Looks create+easyee to do I'll give this a try...Quest ?Can I use cornmeal to help grow "Largerrr Worms or What's is best !!
I like to know more how to make dehydrator
Add 4 dry arbol chilies to the brine, then put 1 in each jar for sweet and spicy b&b pickles
So bro how do you germinate them next years / and does one seed represent one plant
I often think about saving seeds, but I grow several varieties of a lot of vegetables and I just assume that everything is going to be cross-pollinated. Might be a fun experiment sometime to see what comes of it.
Great vid !
Every day is a happy day for them. Except that one BAD day, of course! 🤣
I just discovered you. I knew within 8 seconds you're canadian. True North! 🇨🇦
Great video
Good stuff
Great video, thank-you for sharing. Question, once you process seeds and place them in a package, how long are they good for? I have heard different answers, so I wanted to get your opinion. Thanks.
